Appeal to Parishioners
In February 2023, all interested parishioners were invited to a brain-storming session to generate
some discussion about the next phase of the Saint Wendel Parish Facilities Master Plan. That
evening we revisited the 2001 Master Plan and created a list of 39 projects and ideas that might
be included in the next phase of the Master Plan.
We took that list to the various parish organizations and councils and asked them to prioritize the
top three. Overwhelmingly, the top three included: the addition of two classrooms, replacing the
church roof, and paving the gravel parking lot. Due to wind damage several months later, it
became necessary to proceed with the replacement of the church roof as well as the roofs on the
parish office, the Commons, Cafetorium and school library. We were fortunate to be able to pay
for all this work with the money from the insurance claim and a very successful Summer Social.
Another item on the list – but not included in the top three – was the replacement of the boilers.
It became necessary to replace those two boilers this fall before we had anticipated. Again, the
replacement of the boilers was paid for with funds from our successful Summer Socials.
This leads us to the next two projects on the list: construction of two additional classrooms and
paving the gravel parking lot. To help fund these projects and several others we are planning a
Capital Campaign. This is a bold undertaking for our parish. In recent history Saint Wendel
Parish has had two very successful Capital Campaigns – in 2001 (with a goal of raising $3.9
million) and in 2016 (with a goal of raising $1.1 million).
We are writing to roll out this “Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future” Capital Campaign with
a goal of $845,000. Take a few minutes and read the enclosed campaign flier which lists the
projects for this three-year campaign. We are fortunate to have $900,000 available to help fund
these projects and a $500,000 dollar for dollar match from a generous donor for this campaign.
Begin to prayerfully consider making a generous three-year pledge.

Capital Campaign Prayer
Capital Campaign Prayer:
Gracious and merciful Father, You love us into being and call us into mission. Jesus, our Savior, taught us that the lamp of discipleship must be visible rather than hidden, that the measure with which we measure will be measured out to us, that what we do or fail to do for others, we do or fail to do for Him. Bless the Diocese of Evansville, united throughout its twelve counties in Southwest Indiana. May we seek to know and embrace Your will in all things, striving to be who and what we claim to be as the Church, the Body of Christ. Grant us courage, humility and generosity to be more effective witnesses of mercy, justice and peace. Renew in us the missionary spirit entrusted to the Church to be stewards of Your grace and blessings through time, talent and treasure. May Your Holy Spirit guide and strengthen us as intentional disciples of Your Son through Word, Sacrament and Service. We ask this of You through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever, Amen. – Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!
